Job Summary

The Senior AI Engineer will be a key contributor to advancing Allia Health Group’s AI and automation strategy. Reporting initially to the CTO and later to the Director of AI, this role will focus on designing, developing, and deploying advanced AI/ML solutions that improve efficiency, decision-making, and automation across the business. The role requires hands-on technical expertise combined with the ability to collaborate across teams and translate business needs into impactful AI solutions.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and deploy machine learning models and AI solutions for production environments
  • Collaborate with product, data, and engineering teams to identify opportunities for AI-driven innovation
  • Develop scalable AI pipelines, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, training, evaluation, and deployment
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of Allia’s AI stack, leveraging Google Cloud’s Vertex AI
  • Monitor and maintain AI systems to ensure performance, accuracy, and fairness
  • Research and apply cutting-edge AI techniques (e.g., deep learning, NLP, computer vision, LLMs) where applicable
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the definition of best practices in AI engineering
  • Required Qualifications
  • Ideal Degree(s): BSc or MSc in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field
  • Experience: 4–7 years in AI/ML engineering roles
  • Must-Have:
  • Strong proficiency with machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with MLOps tools and practices (e.g., model lifecycle management, CI/CD for ML)
  • Proficiency in Python and common ML libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy)
  • Experience deploying models to production using containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with cloud AI platforms, preferably Google Cloud Vertex AI (AWS/Azure acceptable)
  • Understanding of data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques
  • Solid knowledge of version control, testing, and collaborative software development practices
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred: Google Cloud; Looker; Vertex AI; UiPath; N8N; CI/CD with GitHub & Google Cloud; React; PostgreSQL; Docker; Kubernetes; and other role-adjacent tools.
  • Candidates with AWS experience are welcome but Google Cloud is preferred

  • Working in Madeira in a shared office space, remote in Portugal, or remote in a Portuguese time zone-friendly location
  • Flexibility to shift portions of the day to increase time zone overlap with US CST time zone
