Project Summary

We are looking for a Drive Test Engineer / Consultant to support a short-term onsite project in Portugal. This role goes beyond pure technical execution — the selected candidate will act as a customer interface, directly communicating testing progress and initial findings to the client (Ookla).

The ideal profile is a hands-on drive tester who is confident in client-facing communication, particularly in Portuguese, and experienced in benchmarking/drive test projects such as RootMetrics or similar.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute mobile network drive tests across 2G / 3G / 4G / 5G
  • Operate drive test tools such as TEMS, Nemo, or equivalent
  • Act as primary customer interface onsite, representing the project professionally
  • Explain testing progress, preliminary results, and observations to the client
  • Collect and interpret RF KPIs (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, RSCP, etc.)
  • Identify, log, and report network performance issues
  • Collaborate closely with optimization and benchmarking teams
  • Travel across multiple regions in Portugal and follow assigned drive test routes
  • Ensure safe and responsible driving during all testing activities
  • Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Drive Testing / RF Testing
  • Fluent Portuguese (mandatory, active speaking required)
  • Proven experience in client-facing or customer interface roles
  • Background in benchmarking projects (e.g. RootMetrics or similar)
  • Strong understanding of mobile network technologies and KPIs
  • Comfortable explaining technical results to non-technical or semi-technical clients
  • Valid driving license (EU or international preferred)
  • Able to work independently in an onsite, field-based environment
  • Nice to Have:
  • Experience with Actix, TEMS Discovery, or post-processing tools
  • Knowledge of 5G NR architecture and testing
  • Basic skills in Excel, automation, or scripting (Python is a plus)
  • Previous experience working in multinational or vendor-client environments
